Auf einem karierten Tuch versammelt wie Artefakte bei einer improvisierten Ausgrabung, bildet eine Gruppe japanischer Figurenspielzeuge — Monchhichi in der Mitte, Doraemon daneben — ein Miniaturpantheon der Nachkriegs-Populärkultur. Moriyama nähert sich diesem Stillleben mit derselben dokumentarischen Ernsthaftigkeit, die er auf Straßenszenen und menschliche Subjekte anwendet, und behandelt Massenware-Figuren als legitime Kulturobjekte. Der Gingham-Hintergrund domestiziert die Szene und legt ein Kinderzimmer oder das private Ritual eines Sammlers nahe. Warme Töne und geringe Schärfentiefe durchdringen die Komposition mit Zärtlichkeit und verwandeln Plastik-Nostalgie in etwas, das ans Andachtsvolle grenzt.
