What is Xiamen Dada?

Xiamen Dada was a Chinese artist group from Xiamen city, on China’s southeast coast. The group, coming to prominence in the 1980s, explored the relationship between Chan Buddhism and European dada, embracing the absurd while using chance to determine the artworks made.

Relief printing

Relief printing is the process of etching or cutting a printed surface so that the design which will be printed is the only part left. Removing all the parts not wanted in the final product allows only the design to be printed.

Ceramics

Ceramics is an art form using clay to create objects. The clay is shaped, molded and formed by hand, using specialized tools, and baked, or fired, in a high temperature oven, or kiln. Decorative color, special glazes, are painted on, and fired again to finish.

Coloured pencil

Coloured pencils have a round core of different colored pigment encased in wood or are art sticks made with only solid pigment. The pigment is held together with a binder. Drawing spreads these ingredients on a surface, transferring color in varied widths.
