Robert ParkeHarrison is part of a husband-and-wife photography team that has been making art together since the mid-1990s. Their photography focuses on connections between the environment and humanity, a notion that has gained popularity thanks to such ideas as the establishment of carbon footprints and such movements as the Go Green Initiative.

« We often joke that the camera that is not broken
is the one that gets used! »

Robert ParkeHarrison
The ParkeHarrisons use collage, painting techniques and photogravure to mold environments that look like they are taken from films. The ParkeHarrisons' collaborative bookThe Architect's Brother was listed in theNew York Times' ten best books about photography in 2000.

« some images invite us to use our medium format analog camera, while others are better suited to a digital camera. »
Robert ParkeHarrison

Their work appears in the permanent collections of more than 20 museums, including the Los Angeles County Museum, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City, and the National Museum of American Art in Washington, D.C. In recent years they have also started making sizable, dramatic sculptures that mirror the dreamy ambiance of their photogravures.

What is Environmental Art?

This is a collective term used to refer to a wide range of arts and practices that include the historical and ecological approaches to artistic works. The term often encompasses the ecological concerns though it is neither certain nor specific on this. It acknowledges and appreciates the early history environmental art movement as well as the art with a lot of activist concerns not forgetting the art that celebrates the connection between nature and the artist by use of natural materials.
