Gao Brothers
Gao Brothers (China, active since 1985) are Beijing-based artists Gao Zhen (b. 1956) and Gao Qiang (b. 1962), renowned for their multidisciplinary art that critiques Chinese politics, history, and society. Their provocative works, including 'The Execution of Christ' and 'Miss Mao,' employ sculpture, photography, and performance to challenge censorship and authoritarian narratives.

What is Chinese contemporary art?
Chinese Contemporary Art is marked by a wide range of styles and experimental approaches. In the 1980s, avant-garde exhibitions were often shut down by government officials. The 1990s saw the rise of political pop and cynical realism, while China's One-Child Policy influenced artists to explore the individual as a subject matter.
