// Homage to Federico Garcia Lorca by Robert Combas is a striking silkscreen print crafted in 2001. The artwork presents a surreal and abstracted figure set against a grid-like background, with exaggerated, mask-like facial features that blend human and mystical qualities, possibly evoking Lorca’s own complex, poetic spirit. The prominent swirling patterns at the bottom add dynamism and intrigue, while bold black lines and muted colors dominate the piece, emphasizing a sense of mystery and intensity. The title, inscribed above as Loups garous! (Werewolves), hints at themes of transformation, perhaps an homage to Lorca’s exploration of identity, the supernatural, and the surreal.

What is Figuration Libre?
Figuration Libre is an art movement that is equivalent to the French Bad Painting and Neo-Expressionism in Europe and America. The term was coined by Ben Vautier and the Fluxus movement. In 1981, Robert Combas, François Boisrond, Hervé Di Rosa, and Rémi Blanchard formed the Figuration Libre group. The term can be interpreted as free style art, emphasizing spontaneity, freedom, and a rejection of traditional artistic conventions.
