Maurizio Cattelan – Window, 2026 – Pigment print

Archival pigment print on 410gsm Somerset Tub Sized Radiant White paper. Hand-signed in pencil.

'Window' by Maurizio Cattelan is a pigment print measuring 63 × 51.6 cm. A ripe banana, fixed to a white rectangle by a diagonal strip of silver duct tape, floats against a hand-painted-style sky of deep cobalt blue and billowing cumulus clouds. The composition is a direct visual reference to Cattelan's own 'Comedian' — the duct-taped banana that sold for $120,000 at Art Basel Miami Beach in 2019 and became a flashpoint for debate about institutional value and market absurdity. Here, the banana is lifted from the gallery wall and placed against a Magritte-inflected sky, extending Cattelan's long-running practice of recycling and destabilising his own notoriety. The title, 'Window', frames the white panel as an aperture — a portal through which the art world's most argued-over fruit ascends, somewhere between memento mori and punchline.

What is Performance Art?

What is Performance Art?

Performance Art is a genre of fine art that is traditionally interdisciplinary, involving various art forms. It can be scripted or unscripted, random or carefully orchestrated, spontaneous, or meticulously planned, with or without audience participation. Performance Art can be presented live or through media, with the artist either present or absent. It typically involves four basic elements: space, the performer’s body or presence through a medium, time, and the relationship between performer and audience. The artwork consists of actions performed by an individual or group in a specific time and space.
