Hand signed, dated 'MM 88' on the verso of each. Numbered on the verso of each. This complete portfolio is comprised of 16 prints and 2 glossary page. Comes with the original case.
'Untitled (Portfolio 2)' by Matt Mullican is a mixed media work from 1988, comprising sixteen sheets arranged in a four-by-four grid. The prints move between visual registers that Mullican developed across his career: flat architectural floor plans rendered in yellow and grey, dense grids of pictographic symbols, bold silhouetted figures, and abstract compositions in primary colours. These categories — what Mullican calls cosmological 'frames' — form the structural backbone of his broader practice, organizing the world into systems of signage, language, and perception. As a key figure of the Pictures Generation, Mullican built an entire cosmology from the visual language of public information systems, maps, and mass-media symbols. The portfolio format allows these distinct registers to sit in dialogue, each sheet a discrete piece of a totalizing worldview.
