Marcel van Eeden Oswald Sollmann Der Traum jacquard-woven tapestry with abstract forms and earthy tones, 170 x 130 cm

Cotton gobelin (blanket, tapestry) in jacquard-technique woven after Marcel van Eeden's watercolour from 2014 in a book-case-box (48 x 36,5 x 7 cm) Size of the blanket: ca. 170 x 130 cm. Sewn onto the back of the blanket is a cotton label with a unique gun-drawing signed, numbered and dated by the artist. // Oswald Sollmann – Der Traum by Marcel van Eeden, created in 2014, is a jacquard-woven tapestry that translates van Eeden’s watercolor work into textile form. This large cotton gobelin tapestry measures approximately 170 x 130 cm, capturing abstract shapes and vibrant, painterly brushstrokes in earthy tones, reminiscent of mid-century abstract expressionism. The tapestry’s layered forms and interweaving lines evoke a dreamlike, introspective atmosphere, aligning with the title Der Traum (The Dream). This edition is limited to eight pieces, each accompanied by a unique gun drawing on a cotton label sewn on the back, individually signed and numbered by van Eeden. The piece explores themes of memory and interpretation, with its tactile quality adding a new dimension to van Eeden’s original watercolor.

What is photorealism?

Photorealism is a genre of art or artistic movement that involves drawing, painting, and other graphic media in which the artist carefully studies a photograph and attempts to reproduce it as realistically as possible in another medium. While the term can broadly describe any artwork created in this manner, it specifically refers to a group of painters and paintings in the U.S. art movement that emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s.
