// Poema Visual 20 by Joan Brossa, a limited edition lithograph from 1989, is a striking piece that merges minimalist form with surrealist undertones. The artwork features a large, bold, black numeral 0 prominently positioned in the lower half of the composition. In the upper right corner, a vintage biplane appears as if flying away from or toward the numeral, creating a whimsical contrast. This juxtaposition between the static, weighty presence of the 0 and the lightness of the aircraft invites reflections on themes of infinity, emptiness, and freedom. Brossa’s work often explores language, symbols, and abstraction, blending poetry with visual art in thought-provoking ways.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
