Digital print on Conqueror Vergé Pencil paper - Signed in pencil // Adrian Ghenie's 2020 digital print The Raven merges fragmented, darkly evocative elements to create a hauntingly layered composition. Constructed on Conqueror Vergé Pencil paper, this work combines abstract forms with hints of recognizable imagery, veiled in shadowy tones and punctuated by bright accents. The fractured shapes and overlapping images evoke a sense of disorientation and mystery, reminiscent of both collage and surrealism. Ghenie’s piece feels like a visual representation of memory or dream states, where clarity and obscurity coexist. The Raven invites viewers to delve into an introspective exploration of hidden narratives within its complex visual layering.

What is figurative art?

Sometimes known as Figurativism, figurative art refers to sculptures and paintings that are clearly or specifically derived from real objects, making them representational. The term figurative art is often used in contrast to abstract art. However, since the emergence of abstract art, figurative art has come to describe any form of modern art that has strong references to the real world or actual situations.
