J'essaie de travailler tous les jours, même quand je ne suis pas motivé. Le rituel est très important pour moi.

Spécialisé principalement dans la représentation du nu féminin, Mel Ramos était un peintre figuratif dont les œuvres incorporaient également des éléments de pop, de réalisme et d'art abstrait. Aux côtés de ses collègues artistes, Warhol et Lichtenstein, Ramos s'est inspiré de sources telles que les bandes dessinées Wonder Woman et Superman pendant sa jeunesse et a plus tard été attiré par les références aux pin-up et aux marques populaires ; ses œuvres qui en résultent présentent souvent des images absurdes telles qu'une femme nue drapée sur une tablette de chocolat, comme celle exposée dans son œuvre Toblerone Tess - ces œuvres sont souvent considérées comme un clin d'œil à la façon dont le capitalisme a monopolisé le corps féminin. Parmi ses œuvres souvent controversées, Ramos a déclaré : « Je veille à ce que mes œuvres ne soient pas trop érotiques et qu'elles aient toujours une touche d'humour... que vous la compreniez ou non. » (Artist website)
