What is Grupo Frente?

Grupo Frente was a movement founded in 1954 Brazil by teaching artist Ivan Serpa. Many students at the Rio de Janeiro Museum of Modern Art participated in the movement, which sought to reject the nationalism and figuration in modernist forms of Brazilian painting.

Silkscreen

Silkscreen is a method for making prints using a screen made of silk or some other mesh fabric. The screen is prepared with a substance which only allows the ink forced through it to print in selected areas. Each color used needs a separate screen.

Acrylic sculpture

Acrylic sculpture is the name for a process and object. The artist makes a sculpture from clay, plaster or epoxy, uses it to make a flexible mold, pours melted acrylic into the mold, and when cured, hand finishes the acrylic piece with sanding and polishing.`

Drypoint

Printmaking technique belonging to Intaglio family, where an image is skillfully incised to a plate using a hard pointed object or "needle" of a sharp diamond or metal point. Copper was traditionally the plate but nowadays, zinc, plexiglas or acetate are commonly used. Like in etching, drypoint is a little bit easier for a drawing artist to master compared to engraving as the needle technique is closer to the use of a pencil than the burin in engraving.
