etching and collage // Jaume Plensa's Interior III (1991) is a mixed media collage that juxtaposes an etching of a formal portrait with a clock face inserted into the figure’s eye. The image is presented over a background of fragmented, partially obscured text, which seems to emerge from the page in disjointed sections. The clock, replacing one of the eyes, adds a surreal and conceptual layer to the work, likely representing time, perception, and the ways in which individuals are shaped or seen through temporal and societal lenses. The text, although fragmented, suggests broader themes of identity, classification, and the intersection of the human and mechanical. This piece, typical of Plensa’s work, challenges viewers to explore the relationship between time, the self, and external societal influences.

What is site specific art?
Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
