David Batchelor

David Batchelor (Schotland, 1955) is een Schotse kunstenaar en schrijver, bekend om zijn levendige verkenningen van kleur in stedelijke omgevingen. Zijn werk omvat sculpturen, installaties en fotografie, waarbij hij vaak gevonden objecten gebruikt om dynamische composities te creëren. Batchelor's opmerkelijke publicaties omvatten 'Chromophobia' (2000), waarin hij de afkeer van kleur in de westerse cultuur onderzoekt.

Wat is Minimalisme?

Minimalisme is een stijl in muziek en beeldende kunst die wordt gekenmerkt door eenvoudige, teruggebrachte ontwerpen. Het begon in de westerse kunst na de Tweede Wereldoorlog en verwierf vooral bekendheid in de Amerikaanse beeldende kunst. Minimalisme put sterk uit aspecten van het modernisme en wordt vaak gezien als een reactie op het abstract expressionisme, evenals als een voorloper van post-minimalistische kunstpraktijken. Prominente minimalistische kunstenaars zijn onder andere Agnes Martin, Donald Judd, Robert Morris, Frank Stella en Dan Flavin.
