The artwork combines layers of vibrant colors, scribbled words, and abstract shapes that overlap with distorted facial features, creating a sense of psychological intensity. Scrawled words and phrases, some humorous and others unsettling, interact with the image, blending textual elements with visual symbols to explore themes of identity, inner dialogue, and subconscious thoughts. Known for his multimedia and mixed-media approach, Oursler uses these layered visuals to pull viewers into a fragmented, surreal narrative. This print, part of an edition of 100 plus 20 artist proofs, is signed and numbered on the back.

What is Surrealism?
Surrealism began in the 1920s as an art and literary movement with the goal of revealing the unconscious mind and unleashing the imagination by exploring unusual and dream-like imagery. Influenced by Sigmund Freud’s theories of psychoanalysis, Surrealist artists and writers sought to bring the unconscious into rational life, blurring the lines between reality and dreams. The movement aimed to challenge conventional perceptions and express the irrational aspects of the human experience.
