Etching / carborundum // Jaume Plensa's Untitled (Abstract Blossom) (1987) is a limited edition etching that features a striking abstract floral form. The composition is simple yet evocative, with a central flower-like shape rendered in black lines on a textured background. The design resembles a stylized blossom or bud, with layered, petal-like forms surrounding an inner core. Above this core, a cluster of circular shapes evokes a sense of organic growth, while the symmetry of the image creates a balanced and harmonious aesthetic. The use of carborundum gives the piece a textured, tactile quality, emphasizing the physical presence of the print. Plensa's work often explores themes of nature, form, and the human body, and this piece, with its abstract representation of a natural element, invites contemplation on the intersection of the organic and the symbolic.

What is site specific art?
Site-Specific Art is a form of artwork created to exist in a particular location, with the artist considering the site as an integral part of the creative process. Robert Irwin was a key figure in promoting this art form in California. Site-Specific Art emerged as a reaction against modernist objects, which were often portable, commodified, and confined to museum spaces. In contrast, Site-Specific Art is inherently tied to its location, challenging the traditional notions of art as a transportable and marketable commodity.
