Tryptych (1991) van Francis Bacon, gedrukt in 1992, is een indringende aquatint waarin figuratieve abstractie en psychologische spanning samenkomen. Een verwrongen naaktfiguur verschijnt uit of verdwijnt in een zwart vlak, met een realistisch gezicht dat scherp afsteekt tegen de achtergrond. De ledematen zijn vervormd, typerend voor Bacons onderzoek naar het lichaam onder druk. De eenvoudige kleuren zwart en beige versterken het gevoel van isolatie. Hoewel "Tryptych" de titel is, bestaat dit werk uit één paneel en verwijst het naar zijn beroemde drieluiken. Oplage van 84 exemplaren.

Wat is Nieuwe figuratie?
Neo-figuratieve kunst is een verzamelterm die verwijst naar de heropleving van figuratieve kunst in Amerika en Europa in de jaren 1960, na een periode die werd gedomineerd door abstractie. Michel Ragon, een Franse kunstcriticus, stelde dat deze heropleving van figuratie plaatsvond tijdens een kritieke periode van sociale en politieke onrust in beide regio's.
