Sergej Bratkow ist ein ukrainischer realistischer Fotograf. Bratkows Werke sind meist menschliche Motive, doch die Porträts sind weit entfernt von Glamour-Aufnahmen oder lächelnden Gesichtern. Er betont die Teile des menschlichen Lebens, die wir nicht gerne sehen, aber dennoch vorhanden sind.

Bratkov macht auch schwarz-weiße Landschaften, die entweder in verlassenen Objekten oder in einsamen, knorrigen Bäumen ein Thema der Einsamkeit haben, wie in seiner Sammlung Cherry Orchard, die Teil der ständigen Sammlung im Pinchuk Art Centre ist. Bratkows Kunst versucht, die kalte, dunkle, kränkliche, ja groteske Seite der Welt einzufangen. Seine Fotografie Portrait of Father zeigt einen Mann, wie keiner von uns von der Welt gesehen werden möchte, sondern seine Realität ist. Obwohl die meisten seiner Fotografien in Farbe sind, sind die Farben meist Schwarz-Weiß mit einer anderen Farbe wie Rot oder Blau. Alle Fotografien sind mit kalter Beleuchtung und selten mit natürlichem Sonnenlicht aufgenommen.
