Sarah Morris

Sarah Morris has exhibited internationally since the 1990s. She creates both films and paintings and views the two media as interconnected. Sarah Morris's films focus on particular cities or individuals, as well as places from the viewpoint of an individual. The British artist creates abstract paintings that investigate what she describes as "urban, social, and bureaucratic typologies." Sarah Morris’s works are based on the observation of architectural details with careful consideration to the dynamics of a city. Sarah Morris' graphic paintings are dramatic and executed with high-gloss paint. In her film work, she uses different types of cinematography, as a way of examining it from the inside out. Morris' most recent work is about Rio de Janeiro and depicting its complex layers. She expands on her abstract compositions to Rio's beaches, hospitals, fruit stands, and even football stadiums. Living and working in both New York and London, Morris has participated in many exhibitions including The Wexner Center for the Arts (2012) and Kunsthalle (2013). (Artist website)
